Pre production diary

30/09/14
Today we completed the introduction to story boards and completed our shot lists. Me and jack started to develop the story board. The shot list included the framing (shot distance), camera angle, Mise-en-scene, duration of the shot and the transition from shot to shot.

01/10/14
Today I carried on developing the story board listing the shot times, mise-en-scene, dialogue and any sound effects that are included in each shot. Yasmin and jack worked on the recces and release forms.

02/10/14
Today i carried on developing the story board and signed off on a location release. I also contacted Kirk delay a friend of mine who is going to help me develop the script for the short and prepared a talent release form for him to fill in. Yasmin took care of most of the release forms including the release form for the location which she got signed by the senior caretaker. Jack developed the two possible ending we are going to use on our story board as we are unsure which to use so we included them both. Jack also prepared a release form for him self which needs to be signed by his parents and i prepared a release form for Alana Taylor which she is taking home to be signed by her parent. Yasmin also began to complete the risk assessment form.

03/10/14
Today me and jack finished the story board. I took pictures of  the two location we were looking at to shoot the short and have them saved in a draft on blogger, also i recorded what else needed to be done and we all allocated our selves different tasks so that the work load was divided evenly. Jack also completed the prop list and budget. Yasmin completed the risk assessment, the contact sheet and added a bit to the production sheet.

06/10/14
Today kirk delay came in to help work on the script with me. Jack and yasmin made sure we had all our paper work ready to be handed in to meet the deadline.
07/10/14
Today the whole group made sure all our paper work was accurate and complete, this included getting release forms signed by the relevant people.
08/10/14
Today we took photos of all the pre production work so we could upload it to the blog. I had to amend some of the drawings on the story board as they didn't accurately portray the scene. Once the drawings on the story board represented the shot accurately we took all the photos and began to crop and redact them so they didn't show anyone's personal details. However we ran out of time before the end of the lesson so had to finish uploading the photos at home.
10/10/14
I finished redacting and cropping the photos at home and attempted to upload them to Flip share, a publication site, however ran into some trouble as this was either taking to long or just not working because of poor internet connection.
11/10/14
I worked some more on the script today reaching a point where I need to conclude it. I'm going to show Jack and Yasmin the script so far on Monday and share some ideas to come up with a suitable ending for the short.
13/10/14
Today we couldn't film due to torrential rain so instead we updated our blogs.
14/10/14
Today we got the chance to begin filming and managed to capture most of the footage we needed. Me and jack both took turns filming and positioning the snails. We had to changed some of the shots because of difficulties with the snails however we still captured most of the planned shots we wanted to. We uploaded the footage onto a USB stick as we couldn't access the footage on the SD card.
16/10/14
Today we began editing our footage creating the cuts we needed and discarding any footage that wasn't required. This took longer than expected as a lot of the footage wasn't useable but we managed to find enough useable footage to make the short.
17/10/14
Today we edited the footage further and began to see a chronological order appear. We also began to make the freeze frames used in the film by uploading stills from the footage to photo shop, making them black and white and editing the contrast. We then uploaded the edited versions of the freeze frame to premier pro and added the names of each slug featured in the freeze frames to the freeze frames. We also used key frames to help implement timed movement of the camera and writing in the freeze frame. We found once added to the edit it really gave the film a nice feel.
20/10/14
Today me and jack continued editing the footage while Yasmin worked on finishing the freeze frames in photo shop. We also managed to record the majority of the voice overs needed for the film. we plan to record the narrator's lines tomorrow. After capturing the sound we began to add it to the footage and place it so the dialogue matched with the cuts in the film. We may re-record some of the voice overs again and we also need to add some ambient sound into the back ground so it sounds like the voices are outside. Tomorrow we also plan to add music to certain parts of the film and also some sound effects to add to the freeze frames.
21/10/14
Today me and jack continued the editing process re-arranging some shots and transitions so the short flows better. Yasmin continued to develop the freeze frames which are now nearly finished/
22/10/14
Jack and yasmin were both absent today so I continued editing by my self. I mainly focused on matching up the audio with suitable shots and the short feels like its starting to come together.
23/10/14
Today me and jack finished off the editing and we published the finished short on youtube.
